I have a confession. I slept with a married man that went to the same church. I was the other woman in his affair. I knew his wife, though we weren’t really very close. We had several mutual friends, and I even taught their daughter in Sunday school each week. Rob knew the entire time, but his wife didn’t. We met via a Craigslist personals ad that hubby had created for me. I knew it was him right away when he sent a picture. He was a big bear of a man, with a kind of rugged handsomeness. I sent back a picture that slightly obscured my face, so I wasn’t exactly sure if he knew who I was at first. He finally admitted that he had immediately recognized me after about a month of sporadic online chatting.

We would message each other throughout the day, but also while we sat in church. Sometimes I could see him texting me before getting the message. Mostly, he complained about his wife. Supposedly she was controlling and mean and would withhold sex. Of course, I always doubted that. I think most cheaters probably criticize their marriage to the other woman. And from my perspective, she was a great mom and loving wife.

One time, she went out of town with their kids, and he invited me over. Apparently, he was an amateur masseuse and offered me a massage. It was risky to go to his house since there was danger of someone seeing me, but the house was somewhat secluded and Rob encouraged me to go. He stayed home with the kids, and I drove over with just an expectation of having a drink and talking, and possibly a massage. Well, one drink turned into three, and the massage turned into kissing and then into some passionate sex.

After our night together, our relationship turned more into an online emotional affair, and he gave me the pet name “Doll.” Of course, we would still see each other at church. I still taught their daughter, and my husband would still shake his hand in passing. He always looked at me a little different than he looked at the other women in the church, but his wife never knew. I eventually ended the relationship, and they moved away to another state about 6 months later for unrelated career reasons. But, I’m still friends with both him and his wife on social media.
