Was chatting with my friend this morning, her and her family..

Was chatting with my friend this morning, her and her family are in Lviv now(west of Ukraine). It’s a fully Ukrainian speaking city, they never liked us from Kharkiv too much because we speak Russian (there were always cases of throwing people out of the stores for speaking Russian). And now the hate for Russian language is so much worse. My friend tries to find an apartment to rent for a long term there and willing to pay what they ask - apartments that used to cost $200 per month before war now cost $400🤦🏻‍♀️ And it’s not the biggest issue… They got a refusal 4 times just for being from Kharkiv DESPITE they spoke Ukrainian for the owners. Yesterday they found a very nice apartment, booked it and prepaid, and were going to wait until 12th of June to move in. Then been called on the phone and asked where they were from and now they won’t let them live there and gave money back. You can’t get a humanitarian aid in most places in Lviv if you speak Russian, they literally put notes on the entrance door “dogs that speak orc language can’t get humanitarian aid” To me, it’s very sad and unfair. I understand the hate for everything that is russian but this language is native for so many people in many countries other than Russia. And we in Kharkiv are patriotic to Ukraine and fight hard for our freedom and our country. Us speaking russian doesn’t make us Russian just like speaking english or french doesn’t make a Canadian American or French. Im in a different western Ukrainian city and here language is not such a big problem, some people of course don’t like hearing Russian but most accept. Anyway I try to always speak Ukrainian in public and I have no problem with that. But I do this for comfort of people listening not because I hate Russian language, just like I write all my posts in English here because it’s what most people understand. It’s sad to see Ukrainians fight because of this instead of uniting and helping people actually affected by war that had to leave their homes, many even lost them, actually seen the war and suffered from the horror that Russian occupants brought us. And some people would tell you “go live in your Russia since you speak Russian” and won’t even let you pay the huge money for rent, which is already an act of betrayal towards other Ukrainians, since many lost their jobs but prices went up. I wish all world spoke same language, we wouldn’t have such issues then, would have to sacrifice sexy accents though.
