So from Bucky Barnes to the Last Son of Krypton! These shots feature me in a screen accurate replica of the tights and cape worn by the Man of Steel himself, Christopher Reeve. You can't see the boots in these shots, but they too are real leather and identical.
Being roughly the same height as Christopher Reeve isn't the only similarity I have with him. Though while I look NOTHING like him, we have the same body build. Our rib cages protrude the same way and our legs are the same as well. The worst part about this costume is, I cannot yet wear it in public for two specific reasons.
1) I need to bulk up and gain more muscle in my chest and arms. 2) I need a proper cod piece/cup. You see when they were producing "Superman: The Movie" the costumer told the director Richard Donner (according to the late Margot Kidder) "What size cup do you want him to wear?! There is no middle ground, either we hide it completely or we present it in all it's glory!" Margot thought it was hilarious while Christopher felt it was embarrassing.
Margot claimed one of his codpieces was made of metal and to make matters worse she would randomly flick it and claimed it would make a >PING< sound. Which would elicit a groan from Christopher who would swat at her to "stop it!"
From the things I've heard over the years Christopher Reeve was "hung like a moose," so I can only imagine how much effort it took to keep his member of steel tucked away so it wouldn't be distracting.
For the record, it's worth mentioning that there are TWO layers of thick spandex covering/compressing me in these shots and still, nothing left to the imagination.
Normally I am all about embracing body positivity and encourage others to do the same. Namely, don't hide yourself or compress everything to satisfy other people.
But in the case of Superman, I just CANNOT wear this in public yet until I've got the under gear figured out. No shame for what I've got, but I'm always doing my best to be as accurate as possible.
The prudes should thank Krypton that they made Christopher Reeve wear a cup, because if they hadn't, I DEFINITELY would wear this costume exactly as it shows in these pics! Oh my!
P.S. My hair was pulled up when I took these pics. I didn't have a Superman wig on (have to make one) so I had my hair up in a bun. I just didn't have the heart to let that show.... No Superman should ever have a manbun! lol
