Kalimera my friends! Saying hello today all the way from Athens Greece. I spent the last week exploring the ancient monuments of Athens. I highly recommend taking the tour of the famous Acropolis. You can also check out my travel video I made of my Acropolis tour on OFTV :) . Here's some interesting facts I found out about the Acropolis on my tour : 1.) The Acropolis construction started in 5th century BC and is said to be designed by architect Pericles. 2.) The Acropolis of Athens is home to the Parthenon, the Propylaia, the Erechtheion and the Temple of Athena Nike. These buildings are visible from almost every angle of Athens. 3.) The Parthneon is the temple for goddess Athena, this temple also served as the treasury for Athens. 4.)Inside the Partheno area, there once stood a massive statue of Athena Promachos (champion). The statue stood 9 metres high and symbolised the victory and the strength of the Athenians over the Persians. Pheidias (the statue’s sculptor) placed a shield in her left hand and a spear in her right one. It's said Emperor Theodosius stole the statue and brought it to Constantinople in the year 426 AD. In 1204, inhabitants of the city ruined the statue. They believed the statue was to blame for a crusader invasion they suffered. 5.) Greece wants the Parthenon Marbles returned, and apparently they aren't to happy about it. Much of the art that was once home to Acropolis is now gone. Some of the ancient artefacts are housed in museums. One of the controversial museum piece is the Parthenon Marbles. They are now on display in the British museum of London and the Greek government has order they return these marbles to their home land and be displayed in the museum of Athens. Be sure to check out my video on OFTV for more videos! Have an amazing rest of your week xoxo - Ciao Mila 🥰
